I am Christy Laird, PMP and have been a PMINEO member and volunteer for 8 years. I don’t recall a time during my tenure that I wasn’t in some type of volunteer capacity. I started my first PMINEO assignment on the programs committee as the Director of Events. In March 2017 I moved into the VP of Membership position. I additionally volunteered to rollout a few of the marketing projects that we started last year by filling an interim VP of Marketing role for 6 months in 2017. In that short tenure, I worked with our webmaster and the Board to rollout the new email system, Zoho, elevate a new and improved homepage, and setup up our Document storage system.
During my tenure as VP of Membership, I have worked with a data analyst to create a full membership and events access database to bring together data that is not normally easily searchable. Querying the data from PMI and Proteon systems is a very manual process (member and event data not aligned). With the creation of this new database and a volunteer analyst to support it, we can finally start doing analysis we haven’t been able to do before on our membership and understanding their interests (through event registration and attendance) with PMINEO.
I graduated from Youngstown State University with a Math major/ CS minor. I celebrated my 20-year anniversary this June at Progressive Insurance. I was a programmer for 7 years and an IT Manager/Project Manager for 13 years. I received my PMP in 2010. In January 2015, I won the 2014 Kerzner Project Management Excellence award. A very humbling experience being recognized not only for my Progressive projects, but for all the hard work and time I have invested in PMINEO. It’s easy to volunteer and do my job, it’s another to be recognized for it all by your friends, peers and coworkers that think you do it well. My other additional volunteer extracurriculars: Secretary on FELC (Friends Early Learning Center) Board, Supervisor for Kids Kingdom child check-in team at Willoughby Hills Friends Church, and the web administrator and event planner for the NEW ERG (Network of Empowered Women Employee Resource Group) at Progressive. I’m a change agent and love any variety of work that will challenge me and give me new perspectives.
Attending LIM in 2017 for the first time inspired me to do more as a chapter leader. I’d like to make a broader impact across PMINEO. I am a versatile volunteer and I will pitch in wherever I’m needed without being asked, I offer to help whenever I can. Our membership base is at an all-time high, our retention is increasing, I would like to see our volunteer base grow. The more engaged the members are as volunteers, the more they will get out of the chapter. I aspire to be an engaged Board member and active participant in the chapter activities. Seeing our chapter recognized globally by PMI for being an active and engaged chapter above and beyond the norm should be a challenging, but not unrealistic, goal over the next 5 years.
