A Quick Recap of Tres Roeder’s “A Sixth Sense for Project Management” Presentation

Tres Roeder, PMP provided the PMINEO Professional Development Day attendees with his “A Sixth Sense for Project Management” presentation, based on his best-selling book of the same title.

He covered the six interpersonal aspects that comprise this “Sixth Sense”: 1. Awareness, 2. Whole Body Decisions, 3. Clear Communications, 4. Adaptability, 5. Diplomacy, and 6. Persistence.

Highlights include:

  •  Awareness - Of self, of others, and “the situation”’
  • Whole Body Decisions - Using your brain, heart, and gut to make great decisions;
  • Clear Communication - Communicating straightforward thoughts, words, and images;
  • Adaptability - Being able to adapt the changing project situations, circumstances, and environments;
  • Diplomacy - Unearthing “common ground” and influencing outcomes; and
  • Persistence - Melting obstacles and visualizing success (“Thoughts are things.”).

As a “bonus,” Tres led the attendees through a series of group discussions about the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on Project Management.

After much consideration and debate, most attendees agreed that while AI could be useful in streamlining or even eliminating certain PM tasks, it cannot (at least in the foreseeable future) replace the vital, “sixth sense” skills that good project managers/leaders possess.
