Fairmount Presbyterian Church Solar Panel Project Recap
Speaker Christine Winters, project manager for the 100 year old Fairmount Presbyterian Church project in Cleveland Heights, spoke to members about their more than 10 year process, plan, requirements and deliverables to reduce the church’s carbon footprint. This was accomplished by adding solar panels to their roof while adhering to local building codes. Initial stakeholder and community resistance was discussed, as well as the business case that allowed them to move forward with the project.
With their energy savings, the church was able to use their excess charge to create a backup power system for their church speakers. Christine said that there are potential future plans for electric chargers as well, which was initially considered out of scope with the solar roof project.
