Message from PMINEO President, Andy Macy
As we are approaching the Labor Day weekend, I wanted to let you know of several up coming events and provide some insight into changes that will be occurring with PMI and PMINEO in the coming year.
New Membership Model:
PMI is transitioning to a new membership model in 2027. Under the new model, there will no longer be separate memberships for PMI and PMINEO. Starting in February 2027, your PMI global membership will include membership in your local chapter. This will be determined upon the address under which you register for PMI. The United States is the last country to incorporate this membership model. PMI has been following this model worldwide for several years and had held off transitioning North America for last. PMI started transitioning Canada and Mexico last year. We do not currently know what the costs will be for 2027, but we expect the costs to be inline with what you have been paying for your combined PMI + PMINEO memberships.
2028 North American Chapter Presidents Meeting:
Three-to-four weeks ago, I was able to represent PMINEO at the first North American Chapter Presidents meeting held in over a decade. As you can imagine the primary focus was on the new membership model. We received some valuable feedback from our sister chapters in Canada, who started their transition last year. The new model has on average lead to an 80% increase in chapter membership. PMI is forecasting that PMINEO will grow from being a medium sized chapter of around 1500 members to large chapter of over 2500 members. However, the Canadian chapters have not seen a marked increase in the number of active members. This makes sense if you consider that many of the new members had previously chosen to not be part of the local chapter. So, what this means is that PMINEO should see an increase in members without seeing a corresponding increased demand on chapter resources. Only time will tell, but the current governance board and chapter leadership are preparing to handle the influx of new members. We are also seeking to increase the number of volunteers and have several new positions listed for the chapter to help mitigate an increase in membership demand if it does materialize. As part of the new membership model, PMI has mandated that we revise the chapter by-laws to reflect the new membership model.
Chapter Elections and a vote on the new Chapter By-Laws:
Coming up in next few weeks you will be receiving the announcement and links for the yearly election of members to the PMINEO Governance Board. Two (2) positions will be filled this year. The Governance Board is made up of five (5) members that are elected to two-year terms. Three (3) were elected last year, leaving two (2) for this year. We will also be including a link to review and approve the new chapter By-Laws. I would encourage all members to carefully review and vote on the Board Members that they feel will help guide the chapter in the coming years. All current PMI Northeast Ohio Chapter members are eligible to vote. Chapter members, thanks in advance for participating in your Board elections. More about the candidates here.
Annual Chapter Planning Meeting:
Our Annual Chapter Planning Meeting has been scheduled for Saturday morning October 31st. The link to the meeting is here. We would like to see as many members as possible attend the meeting to provide input on planning for 2027. Please feel free to come in costume if you see fit.
In closing, I wanted to wish everyone a safe & healthy Labor Day Holiday.
