What is speed mentoring?

Speed mentoring applies the speed-dating concept to professional learning and development in an engaging format. This initiative gives participants the opportunity to network and learn from experienced advisors in short bursts of time. We hope you will like this format. It is high energy and lots of fun!

Information for Mentees

Your responsibilities as a Mentee

You will be assigned randomly to different mentors for rounds of talks.

Prepare a brief (30-second) self-introduction or "elevator speech" to share with mentors and mentees.

Arrive at the event between 6:30 and 6:45 PM to check-in and begin networking.

Review the information packet distributed at the event to learn more about the mentors.

Be prepared to ask questions and share experiences with mentors and other mentees.

This is all about in-person networking, so take a timeout from your smart phone and social media.

Dress professionally in "business casual" style.

Bring business cards to share with your mentors and fellow mentees.

Provide advice on a specific topic provided to you, and answer any questions posed by the mentees.

Collect business cards or resumes, and give career advice as time permits.

Overview of Event

Mentors will be professionals in a variety of industries; many have a PMI credential, and associated with the local Northeast Ohio Chapter.

A member of the Student Leadership Development team of the local chapter will open the event with an explanation of the rules and introduce the mentors. At the closing, we will invite two mentors and two mentees to share their experiences of the event.

Each mentor will participate in four rounds with 5–10 mentees in each session. Mentees will be assigned randomly to mentors. Mentees will move from table to table to meet with different mentors.

Each mentor will share one pearl of wisdom, and each mentee will give a quick (30 second) introduction and ask one question.

Specific quantities of rounds, mentors, mentees and duration of sessions may vary depending on registrations.
