Capstone Workshop: It Takes a Village to Move AI Forward

Session 7 — It Takes a Village to Move AI Forward
Full- day Workshop

The series culminates in a hands-on, full-day workshop that brings every thread together around a central truth: no one role moves AI forward alone. Real value comes from the whole village — data, model, product and process, change, governance, and operations — working as coordinated workstreams toward shared outcomes. Treating an enterprise AI initiative as a one-and-done project is one of the most common ways it fails; treating it as a program, with the project professional as the connective tissue, is how it succeeds.

Anchored in PMI’s CPMAI methodology and extending into multi-agent (Agentic) AI systems, the workshop has participants structure cross-functional workstreams, maintain a single integrated RAID log to eliminate blind spots, and design integrated testing that validates end-to-end business outcomes rather than isolated model performance. The proposed collaboration with Baldwin Wallace University adds an academic partner and the opportunity to convene practitioners and students together — reinforcing the “it takes a village” theme in the room itself.

Participants will be able to:

  • Differentiate AI project delivery from program-led capability, and identify the non-modeling workstreams — data, process, change, governance, operations — required for end-to-end value.
  • Coordinate cross-functional workstreams toward shared outcomes using a single integrated RAID log and clear convergence points.
  • Apply CPMAI to the AI component while managing the surrounding program, including the unique risks of multi-agent Agentic AI.
  • Validate success through integrated business-outcome testing within the live organizational environment.

About the Series Cutting Through the Noise: An AI Learning Series for Project Professionals

Artificial intelligence is moving from headline to job requirement. Project managers are increasingly being asked to scope, sponsor, govern, and deliver initiatives that include an AI component — often before they have had a chance to build a grounded understanding of what these initiatives actually involve. The result is a familiar pattern: high expectations, a great deal of noise, and projects that stall because the conversation never moved past the hype.

This proposal outlines a progressive learning series designed specifically for the project professional. Rather than treating AI as a technology lecture, the series builds awareness, then literacy, then practical competence — always anchored in the project management fundamentals and PMI frameworks the chapter’s members already trust. The goal is not to turn PMs into data scientists. It is to help them recognize an AI opportunity, ask the right questions, align stakeholders, and lead the delivery of AI capabilities that produce measurable organizational value.

The series is structured as three core sessions that establish a shared foundation, a set of optional deep-dive sessions the chapter can select from based on member interest, and a capstone full-day workshop. Sessions are modular: the chapter can run the full program or select the pieces that best fit its calendar and audience.
