Celebrating 35 years withe PMINEO

PMINEO Congratulations

Congratulations from Dr. Harold Kerzner, Founder PMINEO

Dr. Harold Kerzner congratulations to PMINEOI wish to express my sincere congratulations to PMINEO for 35 years of service to Northeast Ohio and the project management community of practice at large. A little more than 35 years ago, I recall less than 10 of us sitting in a room talking about starting up a project management chapter in Cleveland. Our biggest challenge was finding a place to meet once a month. If my memory is correct, two companies allowed us to use one of their conference rooms once a month in the evening for a couple of hours: Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company and Warner & Swasey. We could not bring any food into the meeting.

Most of the discussions in the monthly meetings involved how to get more people to join PMINEO. The majority of companies we talked to in NEO thought that only the engineers in their company would consider joining us and that there were other professional societies competing for their engineers as well. As we started up the chapter, we were invited to provide seminars and workshops for a few companies in NEO. Again, almost all of the attendees were engineers.

There were no project management degrees offered by the colleges and universities in NEO. At most, only one course would be available at some schools, and that would be as an elective course or offered through continuous educational practices. All of this has changed thanks to PMINEO and other PMI Chapters.

PMINEO has become the pioneer and leader in providing project management knowledge to organizations in NEO as well as the growth in project management as a full-time profession. Corporations now realize that they are managing their business by projects. PMINEO has helped make project management a strategic competency for the survival and growth of corporations.

I am certainly proud of being a PMINEO member since day one and helping bring this recognition to NEO.
